AMD’s Hondo Tablet Chip Gets Linux Support

Linux hasn’t seen much love from chip makers and Intel has recently announced that their Clover Trail tablet chip will not support Linux machines. AMD, however, who sees Windows tablets reaching 15-20% of market share, will support Linux, just not Android.


Ultimately Intel’s decision not to support Linux on Clover Trail could be costly, and not just in the tablet market.

 

Personally I’m very excited to see non-Android support for Linux, potentially opening the tablet market to dozens of Linux desktop distributions. This could potentially lead to innovation in the tablet user experience and opening the tablet market from the three major players; iOS, Android, and Windows.
